Integrity Features – Cappfinity provide a uniquely wide suite of integrity features that can be deployed across our technology and assessment stack as appropriate for client requirements.
Proctoring Technology
Seamless User Experience
Cappfinity integrity and proctoring operates with a seamless user experience, ensuring that there is no interruption or disturbance of a user’s journey through the assessment process.
Privacy Protection
Cappfinity integrity and proctoring operates without any requirement to collect personal data, ensuring that you can be confident about your compliance with data protection and privacy laws, including GDPR and the EU AI Act.
Camera-On Assessment
Recording the candidate through their video camera while they complete the assessment process. This serves as a deterrent to acting without behavioural integrity, but also needs to be balanced with the legitimate interest and privacy requirements of GDPR and other data protection legislation.
Time Stamping
We log the start times, finish times and the times of other salient behavioural markers as the user works through their assessment experience. Time stamping is mapped against normal distributions to highlight patterns that are outside the norm.
Paste Detection
We do not prevent ‘paste’ actions for accessibility best practice, but we do detect, record and report them. Legitimate use of paste therefore doesn’t get in the way, but anything problematic can be flagged.
Copy Prevention
We prevent the copying of text out of our assessments, because there is no legitimate reason why a candidate needs to copy out from our assessments.
Social Media Content Detection
We monitor social media channels to identify assessment content being shared inappropriately on test preparation and practice websites. We have a long history of legal action in successfully having this content removed.
Social Media Posting Detection
We detect if users have posted live assessment content to social media and flag this for further consideration.
IP Address Tracking & Remote Access
We monitor and track the IP address(es) used to access the system, reporting any flags that could indicate the sharing of content or remote access by a second person.
Focus Monitoring
We automatically monitor a user’s focus and log any time that they move to different tabs, programs or screens on their device.
Integrity Affirmation Videos
Candidates are invited to affirm their commitment to acting with integrity throughout the assessment process, by recording their own asynchronous video which serves to testify to this.
Integrity Statements
Candidates are presented with an Integrity Statement, clearly setting out the expectations for their behavioural integrity throughout the process. Candidates cannot proceed without indicating their acceptance of, and agreement with, the Integrity Statement.
3D Model of Candidate Integrity
Developed by Cappfinity, the 3D Model of Candidate Integrity covers how behavioural integrity is ensured in assessment through the Design of assessments, the Deterrence of cheating, and the Detection of cheating through behavioural, situational and technological means, supplemented with AI detection of anomalous patterns in behaviour.
Integrity Always On
Integrity measures are always available and do not require specific client configuration to enable. Further integrity features may be optional with increasing tiers of capabilities, or may be product configuration-specific, depending on client parameters.
Integrity as Standard
Integrity measures are included in Cappfinity assessments as standard. Products include different integrity features as appropriate, with increasing tiers of capabilities.
Integrity Data Monitoring
ICO Registration
In compliance with UK GDPR, Cappfinity are registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, with registration number Z1879750.
In-Built Security and Data Protection
With certifications in ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and Cyber Essentials Plus, and regular third-party CREST-certified penetration testing, Cappfinity demonstrates unwavering commitment to data security. We use Microsoft Azure’s industry-leading security controls and EU data centres to ensure secure, resilient, and GDPR-compliant data storage and processing.
User Response Matching
Matching user responses to other candidates’ responses, to identify patterns of identical or unusually consistent responding. This gives the ability to identify ‘cheat sheets’ or clusters of candidates who are sharing assessment content.
AI Pattern Matching
We use AI in the background for offline pattern matching of assessment response patterns. This does not interfere with the candidate experience, but provides a deeper level of data verification for client reassurance.
Human-in-the-Loop Reviews
We ensure that every decision is clear and transparent, enabling it to be subject to human review and verification rather than being lost in an ‘AI black box’. We give humans the power and authority to make the decisions they need to, ensuring compliance with GDPR and the EU AI Act.
Configurable Rules
Rules to determine what are acceptable and not as behavioural integrity markers can be configured on a client-by-client basis, ensuring you set the policies and approaches that are right for you.
Integrity Flag Notifications
Configurable per client, Integrity Flag Notifications are used to highlight when a candidate has triggered a pre-specified number of behavioural integrity flags.
Integrity Dashboard
The industry-first Integrity Dashboard that reports candidate flags in relation to behaviours of concern, highlighted throughout the assessment journey. Used by clients to take decisions about candidate progression within the recruitment process.
Candidate Integrity Tracker
Reported since September 2023, the only monthly report on candidate integrity metrics that is informed by more than 2m assessment completions per year.
Dominant Data Insights
With a near 20-year history in assessment, Cappfinity has 500m+ skills data points and 2m+ assessment completions per year, all feeding dominant data insights into candidate behaviour patterns and integrity monitoring.
Assessment Integrity by Design
Item Banking
We use item banking to ensure that no two candidates are ever presented with the same assessment content. This makes it impossible for people to repeat the performance of an assessment they have already seen.
Accessibility by Design
Cappfinity assessments are accessible by design, supported by external independent audits from partners including Lexxic and the Digital Accessibility Centre. We have independent, external VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) completion, and work extensively with clients to meet their needs for WCAG 2.2 AA / AAA compliance.
Diagrammatic Assessment Stimuli
Using diagrammatic formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Behavioural Consistency Assessment
Assessment of target behaviours across different contexts as presented, to assess behavioural consistency and variability. Essentially answering the question of whether a person does the same things in different situations, or different things in the same situation.
Photographic Assessment Stimuli
Using photographic formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Cartoon Assessment Stimuli
Using cartoon formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Image Assessment Stimuli
Using image formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Avatar Assessment Stimuli
Using avatar formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Embedded Text Assessment Stimuli
Using embedded text formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Video Assessment Stimuli
Using video formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Audio Assessment Stimuli
Using audio formats to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
Time-Recorded Assessment
Records the time taken to complete an assessment, which can be used in modelling user behaviour and response patterns. Time taken can also be used as a scoring input to differentiate user outcome results through a combination of time and accuracy.
Time-Limited Assessment
Limits the available time for an assessment, reducing the capacity and potential for a user to use an external system to support with their responses.
Adaptive Assessment
Provides different paths through an assessment experience for the user, dependent on their previous responses and speed of response. These different paths mean that there is not ‘one route’ that can be replicated to cheat.
Assessment UI Variation
Employing a range of different UIs and user interactions throughout the assessment, to ensure candidates need to remain focused and engaged, and so are unable to access an AI assistant. This has the added benefit of supporting accessibility through being a significant positive for diverse learning styles.
Sequential Screen Presentation
Stimuli and information presented on sequential screens, to make it impossible to access all content simultaneously to load into an AI assistant.
Layered Assessment Stimuli
Using layered stimuli with combinations across multiple modalities to provide the assessment stimulus, to prevent engagement with an AI assistant.
NORA – No Obvious Right Answer
Assessment design to ensure there is ‘no obvious right answer’ to make it impossible to determine the correct outcome from generally available information, such as is available to a generative AI system.
Multi-Modal Assessment
Assessment design using different modes and formats of content presentation, to vary the user experience and improve user engagement. Also supports accessibility by design, with different modalities of assessment being a significant positive for diverse learning styles.
